New tutor loves working with children
Diane Grammer starting volunteering as a tutor in September of 2018.
She says, “When I heard about this program, it sounded like my niche as I’m a retired first grade teacher. I love children and firmly believe education is the means in which to improve our country. An extra is just simply meeting and chatting a bit with other women from the community.
I enjoy Thursday evenings on the RV at Spring Forest Apartments. I view us adults as mentors to these elementary students. More than anything, I hope we are conveying to them that we care about their physical well being, in additional to their educational success.
One of the boys I work with is Dariel, a first grader. He’s a happy and talkative little boy who desires to become a success reader. His favorite activity is playing bingo with vocabulary words. Each week he returns books so someone else can enjoy them! We explain he is allowed to keep them at home for himself, but he wants to share them! How sweet!
I respect and appreciate Read and Feed!”
