Cary Storyteller to Host Read and Feed “Tell Me a Story” Livestream

Cary, NC – Read and Feed aims to keep kids reading this month by broadcasting two 30-minute programs intended to engage viewers of all ages in a fun and literacy rich experience. The livestream event will feature Linda Gorham, a professional storyteller based in Cary, as she shares her take on a few classic children’s books. Linda will tell these stories in her signature style that includes laughs, call and response, and energetic audience participation.

“Tell Me a Story” will air on Tuesday, May 19 at 7:00 PM and a second broadcast, with different stories being told, will air on Tuesday, May 26 at 7:00 PM. The programs will be livestreamed via Facebook Live and can be accessed both from Read and Feed’s Facebook page and www.readandfeed.org

“We are excited for this opportunity to bring this virtual, interactive storytelling event  into the homes of not only our Read and Feed students, but of any child needing a nudge to keep reading while schools are closed,” shares Kati Mullan, Executive Director of Read and Feed.

Storytelling is known to be an effective technique for developing literacy and reading comprehension skills because of the way it engages an audience. Linda Gorham explains, “It is a three-way active interaction between the storyteller, the story and the listeners. When participating in a story, I make sure audiences are involved with their bodies, their voices and their imaginations.” Through engagement listeners learn vocabulary, explore new cultures, and learn universal values – all within the context of having fun. “Storytelling creates a love of language and increases the motivation to read. It is the best gift we can give anyone,” says Linda.
